MLB on XM!

Today is the first day of broadcasting for XM 175 - MLB Home Plate, the source for all things baseball. I was listening to the 60s this morning and the DJ was talking about the guys on XM 175 trying to figure out how the phones work at XM, so it looks like they are having some first day jitters.

XM is also going to cover all the MLB games this season. The games will appear between XM 175 and XM 190, so check the schedule hereto find when and where your favorite team will appear. But don’t check right away, as their spring training coverage doesn’t being until March 3rd!

Make Adobe Acrobat Load Faster

Got this from my brother as well. It looks like it came from some of his coworkers, but I don’t know where it really originated. I tried it on my PC and it is amazing how much faster Acrobat loads. A few other people at work have also tried it with success.

  1. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\plug_ins
  2. Select all of the files and folders except for the following:
  • search.api
  • search5.api
  • EWH32.api
  • VDKHome folder
  1. Press CTRL-X to Cut these files from the plug_ins directory
  2. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\Optional
  3. Press CTRL-V to Paste the selected files and directories.

Pepsi and ITunes

I got this link from my brother. He wasn’t sure if it still worked, but I gave it a try this weekend and can say officially that it still works.

iTunes Music Store and RSS

Apple has a RSS feed generator for iTMS. Pick your genre, pick what kind of things you want included (new releases, new tracks add to iTMS, top songs, etc.), and it will give you a URL to add to your News Aggregator of choice.

New Exercise Music for you from iTunes

I was browsing through ITMS when I found some interesting exercise music:

Running Cadences of the U.S. Armed Forces (via Amazon)

It is a collection of “Cadences” that the different branches of the U.S Armed Forces use while running. An example from the Navy:

“I don’t know but it’s been said; Air Force wings are made of lead; I don’t know but I’ve been told; Navy wings are made of gold”

All being “sung” to a quick quarter time beat, perfectly timed to keep you running speed up to tempo. Or maybe you prefer to walk. Then you may want to try Marching Cadences of the U.S. Marines (via Amazon). Same deal as the running cadences, but at a slower marching/walking tempo (and from the samples these also sound to be a bit more musical as you won’t be breathing as hard while singing them.

Just a little something to make your time on the treadmill a little more exciting.

Penn vs. Princeton; Bill vs. the Plague

I was supposed to go to the Penn vs. Princeton basketball game last night. I had the time off from work to make the trip. My dad dropped off the ticket to get in this weekend. But I was way too sick to attend. Apparenlty I had caught the bug that is going around my office and I was out of commission for about 5 days (as were most of my coworkers).

But all is not lost! CN8 in Philadelphia broadcasts the game and they have a streaming feed! So Margaret and I sat down in front of the laptop and watched the game. How exciting! (nothing like seeing the good guys come back from a 18 point deficit to win in overtime). But it was difficult to watch. And not because the computer couldn’t decode the video fast enough (it was a 3Ghz P4 that had CPU cycles to spare). And not because the screen was small (17″ LCD). And not because I couldn’t get enough bandwidth to stream the video to me (at least 3Mbps on Comcast Cable). But because CN8 streams their broadcast at such a small size and bitrate. Sigh.

It’s hard to be a fan of a small market college team like any of the Ivy League teams. It is hard to get a mention on SportsCenter, much less a full televised game. I really wish Comcast would make CN8 content available out of market, even for a fee! I would pay extra to get weekly coverage of Penn sporting events. I would even pay for a better streaming service where I would actually be able to figure out who on the court has the ball without having to guess. But so far, there isn’t much of a market in it.

Penn used to offer all the streaming content on-line for a fee, but they stopped that last year. They weren’t making any money off it, so they stopped charging for it. I’ll admit that I never tried it when they were charging for it. But if it was only as good as what I saw last night, then I am glad I saved my money

Better late than never: GroundhogChase.com

A bunch of pretty funny short movies. Looks like it was filmed in Philadelphia.

The State of our Union is Smirk

Some quick thoughts on the President Bush’s State of the Union address last night (in the order that they occurred

  • I really want to wipe that smirk off of Dick Cheny’s face.
  • Was a law passed requiring the use of the phrase “the state of our union is …”?
  • I really want to wipe that smirk off of President Bush’s face.
  • Is there supposed to be booing during the State of the Union?
  • Let’s see what else is on…

New Month. Yawn…

Yet another page on the calendar. What a great time to reflect on how we are doing on New Years Resolutions! The score on mine are 1 to 2. Two of mine (which I am sure are shared with many of you…) I really didn’t do anything on (Get in shape, lose weight). But there is one that I think I did a pretty good job on: Blog Daily. Throughout January I think I averaged at least 4 posts a week, which is close enough to every day for me (there was that vacation, and weekends, etc. etc.). Hopefully I will be able to keep up a rate like that for the next couple months until it becomes more of a habit (I had to force myself to write about something today because it has been a while). Hope you are all enjoying it as much as I am!
