Fathers Day Gift Idea…

So Father’s Day is next weekend and you are still looking for a gift (Sorry Dad, you’re already bought for!). Here’s a book that I got last summer for myself and really love:

How to Grill” by Steven Raichlen.

This is more than just a cookbook. While it does contain many recipes (like BBQ Cabbage and my favorite: Beer Can Chicken), it is also a fully illustrated guide to different grill techniques. You can learn things like how to “spatchcook”, how to prepare a whole fish to be grilled, and how to stuff a flank steak. And since Steve is really just trying to show you a technique, there is a lot of room for experimentation and personalization.

In addition to the many HOWTO chapters on how to do different specific techniques, Steve also includes some chapters in the beginning on things like “How to pick a good grill”, and the always entertaining “Gas vs. Charcoal”. And in the back he has some recipes for different marinades and rubs that you can make ahead of time to break out whenever you need to grill something.

And what dad doesn’t like to grill? Put this excellent book together with Dad and you should have a taste explosion!

I feel so dirty…

So My post that just mentioned one sentance about Paris Hilton and a link to her softcore porn hamburger ad has sent my circulation numbers through the roof. That single post has gotten 3 times to response than anything else I have ever written. I’m going to go shower….

Announcing a new blog….

One Hoopy Frood is pretty much a potpourri of many things. The main gist of what I write about could be summed up as “Whatever Bill Finds Interesting At This Point In Time”. Sometimes it has to do with Movies or TV. Sometimes with some cool piece of code that I’m hacking around with. Other times it may just be a recap of some cool things that I recenlty did. Basically, this blog has no focus.

I decided that I wanted to work on a more focused blog. That is how Hexadecimal came along. In it I will be writing about anything and everything that has to do with being a profession software developer. My plan is to update it once a week. Unless people start providing me with ideas to talk about, most of it is going to be driven by whatever I am working on at work at that given point in time. I’m looking to make Hexadecimal understandable by anyone. Basically I am writing it for a general audiance so everyone can get a taste of what it is like to be a Software Developer.

You can watch TV to find out about the life of lawers, crime scene investigators, and doctors; but you have nowhere to go to to find out about the life of computer programmers. Until now.
